2026 Plans Update #2: Let Sleeping Gods Lie

Over the course of summer and fall 2025, I kind of wrote a book. A first draft manuscript, at least.

It started as a short story idea, but the more I thought about how to tell it, the more it grew. And grew. And suddenly, it became a novel. Let Sleeping Gods Lie is probably the thing I’ve made that I’m most proud of, and also the most terrifying to put out into the world.

I still need to go through the revision process, which is what I’m planning to focus on in 2026, with the goal of finding a publisher willing to take it on. This will be my first serious attempt at traditional publication, and I’m equal parts excited and nervous about the whole thing.

What It’s About

Blackwood Reach is a small, isolated fishing town in the Pacific Northwest where everyone knows everyone and the old stories are treated as local color rather than truth. When a grieving widower struggles to raise his curious young son and outside forces begin quietly infiltrating the community, generations of forgotten legacy come crashing down. There are debts in this valley that were never meant to be forgotten, and silence is not the same as safety.

Looking Ahead

But it doesn’t stop there. I’m already developing a sequel that expands the universe and tells a completely new story within it. The working title is The Devil’s Due, though that may change. Because I know where the sequel is headed, there are actually some things I want to add to the original book during revision. Threads I can lay now that will pay off later.

I’m also planning to write short stories set in this world. Some will stand alone; others will explore corners of the setting the novels only brush against. The Space Between Heartbeats is one of these, though it ties more closely to the sequel than to the original. Eventually these may be bundled into an anthology.

Happy New Years!

Thank you to everyone who has stuck around and continued to read. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just stumbled across this blog, I appreciate you more than I can say. I’m genuinely excited for what 2026 has in store, and I look forward to updating you as things develop. There’s a lot of work ahead, but if someone finds it and enjoys it, that’s what it’s all about.
